One-on-one leadership development sessions apply the following structure:
The initial sessions focus on an assessment of your current leadership situation – responsibilities, roles, relationships and opportunities. This would also be the time to tap into the feedback network around you, if you think it would be a valuable process to assist with your leadership development. The follow-up sessions apply what is learned in Stage One to hone in on your personal history and explore your personal values, career goals and work / life balance.
The next series of sessions work to develop your leadership vision.
Leadership requires sincerity and integrity. Therefore, it is essential that you have a clear vision of the type of leader you wish to be. This vision must reflect your own personality and values, as well as accommodate the demands of the roles you fulfil, professionally and personally.
Stage Two usually covers a period of a couple of months because developing a personal Leadership Vision is neither simple nor quick. However, these sessions are usually the most interesting, as they allow you to reflect and offer the promise of building a secure framework within which you can confidently evolve your leadership behaviours.
The aim of Stage Three is to develop your ability to analyse situations and relationships in a way that evolves uniquely useful behaviours that ensure leadership success. It includes learning how to be actively responsible for your decisions, actions and relationships, while adopting, and adapting, the skills required to grow into the demands of your role.
Stage Three sessions are usually the ones that candidates find most immediately useful, as the learnings from information discussed and analysed, can be applied immediately in their work environment.
The unique benefits of Stage Three come from basing actions on the lessons from Stages One and Two. Your behavioural repertoire is expanded relative to your specific requirements and can be generalised to many situations including any future role, not just the immediate issues of the day.
